All Aspects Are Being Considered for the Preservation of Environment

During the financial year of 2006, ASICS performed well in action programs for the reduction of paper consumption, green procurement, and reduction of CO2 emission, along with the enforcement of easy-to-undertake promotional activities within the organization. In 2007, to further improve overall performance, we will also address the issue of reduction of waste as the volume has increased as a result of business expansion.

Promoting Higher Awareness among Employees

Environmental Events in the Company

In order to persuade employees to recognize various environmental issues in their daily lives, ASICS planned and carried out various events and programs during FY2006 (as listed below). All of them were received favorably by the employees. We will continue to hold similar events to further improve the awareness of environmental issues and persuade our employees to take action.

Eco Drive Campaigns In the "Environment Awareness Month" of June 2006, the following promotional activities took place under the theme of "Eco-driving".
* Distributed a leaflet explaining eco-driving throughout the organization
* Stopping idling engine and moderate temperature settings for air-conditioning have been selected as the two priorities for the month and a promotional seal was attached on every company owned car.
* A senryu writing contest was held within the organization for an "eco-driving" theme. The Prize winning senryu was posted on bulletin boards. (59 senryu were submitted.)
Cool-Biz Interview * During the Cool-Biz campaign period, employees were interviewed on their coordination of clothing and how they spend time. The interviews were posted on bulletin boards.
"Cool" Product Idea Concept * A contest was held for ideas for products in step with the "Cool-Biz" concept. Prize winning ideas were introduced on bulletin boards. Similar contests will be held in the future to promote eco-friendly products. (15 ideas were submitted.)
Summer Break for Home Eco Programs with Kids * Children of employees were invited to keep a brief diary on eco-related actions taken at home during the summer break. The contents and parents' comments were posted on bulletin boards.
A parent's comment: "This program proved to be a good motivation for the kids to do whatever they can in their daily life. I will encourage them to continue."

Reduction in Air Conditioning City Gas Consumption

Reducing CO2 Emission
Reducing CO2 Emission
In FY2006, the city gas consumption for air conditioning reduced thanks to the Cool-Biz and Warm-Biz campaigns and, in part, the warm winter. This led to a 1.2% overall reduction in CO2 emission from the previous year. We will continue energy saving efforts through further promotion of higher awareness among our employees, eco-driving, and other programs.

Reuse of Materials is an Issue

Volume of Waste
廃棄物発生量 Wastes produced by the company include industrial waste, such as materials used for product development, and general waste from various offices. For FY2006, we saw an increase of 9.9% mainly due to an increased number of new products associated with our business expansion. In the future, we will focus on the reuse of materials to reduce waste.

IT Utilization Reduces Paper Consumption

Reduction of Paper Consumption
A higher utilization of IT in business operations led to a replacement of paper with electronic media for business documents. The outcome was a 10.8% reduction in the paper consumption in copiers.
The use of projectors for presentations in meetings was also effective in reducing paper wastage. We will continue these efforts in 2007 to further reduce paper consumption.

A High Achievement Rate Maintained Each Year

Enforcement of Green Procurement
By using the green procurement list on the website's ordering system, the green procurement has become common place for stationery and office supplies, resulting in a high achievement rate every year. The effort is continuing by designating more eco-friendly items.

Trainees Having Fun

Environment Training Program
The list on the right shows environment related trainings held during FY2006. The total number of trainees reached 888. In some training sessions, quizzes and group projects were employed to make it more enjoyable. In addition, an e-learning system was introduced to make them easier to participate in. We will continue to expand the training program.
