• My first half-marathon

    Last Saturday I felt more exhausted than I have ever felt after a run. I had just run my first half-marathon at the Paavo Nurmi Marathon 2022 in Turku, Finland. As I reached the finish line and my legs nearly gave in beneath me, I knew that I had just run one of the most difficult, but also one of the most rewarding races of my life.

    I get it. It is not always easy to find time for running, but they say “Where there's a will, there's a way”. I have a small kid, 2 jobs and few hobbies and I know how challenging it can get to fit in runs. But a little creativity can help you find time for running and all your workouts.

    It is so easy to think that you are improving your performance by pushing yourself a bit harder on an easy run or by skipping a rest day. However, overtraining causes injuries and stress to our bodies. I pushed myself to the point where I had to take a few years break from running. I have found joy in the long distance runs again but getting back to training has not been a walk in the park. Being in it for the long run also requires easy runs and rest days.
