The ASICS Gel-Kayano has been one the leading stability shoes on the market for several years now. I overpronate, and have used the Kayano's for some time. I went through the Kayano 24's, the 25's (my marathon shoe - I had three identical pairs!) and then moved on to the 26's. To say I love the shoe is a slight understatement, so I was very excited to get my hands on the Kayano 27's!
My first impression? Wow! I absolutely love the colours! They come in seven different colour ways, so loads to choose from. I have the techno cyan/sunrise red combo, which are bright but not too bright, and thankfully it will be easier to keep these ones cleaner than my white ones! The shoes now include a new guidance trusstic called "space trusstic" which is gender specific, so provides greater support towards the arch in the male version, and better support in the direction of movement in the female version.
The Kayano is my go to shoe for longer runs, as well as easy miles where I want the additional support offered. They don't feel heavy (the women's shoe weighs 245 gm and has a 13mm heel drop, with the men's version coming in at 310 gm and a 10mm heel drop). I'm also blessed with wider feet, and go up half a size in all my running shoes, so was really pleased that the 27's are a perfect fit for me both across the foot and in the toe box.
The GEL Kayano is also smoother than ever. Two other enhancements from the previous model are a reduction in the density of FlyteFoam Propel, and the addition of deeper flexion grooves in the forefoot for an even easier take off. ASICS have also added some flex grooves in the heel that improve the transition from landing to the support phase.
I can definitely notice these improvements when I'm running. I love the way the shoe feels when I run, they give me a really comfortable ride, my feet are well supported and stable the whole time. Whilst they are designed to be a road shoe, I've used them on different surfaces including tarmac and dry trails. I'm looking forward to clocking up a lot of miles in these shoes over the coming months.

My first, my last, my everythingby Vicky Ledbury / Feb. 16, 2021
The ASICS GT 2000 range was first introduced in 1993. They were the shoe that started my relationship with ASICS. I bought my first pair around 2001, but at that point I didn’t really know anything about running shoes, I just bought them because I “dabbled” in running and I really liked the shoe!
