Arthur Liberty opened the first Liberty store in London in 1875 through which he traded exotic goods and textiles from the Far East. Shortly after, he began working with local artisans and manufacturers to produce Liberty’s own textiles and objet d’art. By the 1890’s, Liberty Art Fabrics were a byword for the very best in textile design. Today, the Liberty name holds the same prestige title and their design studio creates more than 120 new prints and patterns annually.
