Finally it was time to test the Asics Gel Fujitrabuco SKY. Since I got the last version released in November, I could run only on snow and icy trail, so I was looking forward to try it on "real" terrain.
Actually, I was very very excited to test it, because I have been so lucky to get a prototype of the SKY last year, and therefore participate in the development of this shoe with testing and feedback. It feels a little bit mine too :)
But well, let us come to the shoe. The SKY has a different concept with respect to the Fujitrabuco 9, but also compared to the Lyte and the Pro, it stands out to be a more simple and light shoe (220g!). The sole and the cushioning is thinner, the upper mesh made of pure textile is very light and breathable, and the studs are lower, wider and tighter. What does that mean?
The lightweight GEL-FUJITRABUCO™ SKY trail shoe is a recommended choice if you want to run fast off-road. Developed with three-time UTMB winner Xavier Thevenard, this shoe's design approach focused on weight and drainage. It has a flexible plate...KJØP NÅ
- The light textile in the upper mesh allow the shoe to dry very fast if wet, and it is perfect for the summer. In winter or in particularly cold days it might be too light if you are sensitive to the cold. I have used it for some winter run as well, but it might not be the first choice in winter. In summer you can't ask for better.
In the prototype I have run more than 400km and around 60000m climb, likewise the upper mesh is still in good conditions. Therefore despite the lightness, it is very resistant. Obviously this kind of mesh is a bit loose around the feet, so the comfort is excellent, but the stability in technical terrain and downhill might not be as good as for the Fujitrabuco Pro or Lyte. The drainage is excellent.
- The Gel technology in the heel and the flyte foam in the midsole gives extremely good response and great comfort. I have done also moderate long run in the SKY and I have not experienced any problem although the lightness and the great running feeling. The protection against rock looks weak but it is more than enough in any type of terrain.
- The grip is excellent in dry conditions, in particular on loose rocks and sandy terrain. From the prototype also the grip on muddy terrain has improved a lot and you can trust the shoe in all kind of conditions. Although, for very muddy terrain, I would choose the Fujitrabuco Pro instead. On both dry and wet rocks the grip is also very good.
TIPS: buy one size bigger than you normally do.
BOTTOM LINE - Who is the shoe for?
The Fujitrabuco Sky is a fantastic new entry in the Asics trail collection. It is the lightest model, suitable for fast run and vertical/sky races, but still performing well at long distances. The drainage is excellent and the grip very good in different conditions. The SKY is the perfect summer shoe to enjoy steep climb with quick feet...and fly high!

Shorts are a way of lifeby Marco Anelli / Jul. 24, 2020
Everyone who knows me won't ask a detailed review of a pair of long tights or warm jacket. I rarely use more than a long sleeve t-shirt in winter (except in the mountains), especially when running with a backpack to work. Long tights are perfect for skiing...otherwise I use shorts all the year long. But there, I like to call me an expert! :) Asics offers a pair of shorts for each occasion.
DS Trainer 25 - One step back to move faster forwardby Marco Anelli / May. 25, 2020
DS Trainer has been one of the most successfull model for Asics for many years. The innovation continues with the DS Trainer 25. Following the improvement introduced with the DS Trainer 24, but with slightly more response like the 23. Indeed a great mix of the best features to run even faster.
Lightness, grip and stability in one model: Fujitrabuco Lyteby Marco Anelli / Feb. 06, 2020
Almost a year ago Asics launched the Fujitrabuco Pro, a lighter and more aggressive model of the traditional Fujitrabuco. Now an even lighter model is on the market, the Fujitrabuco Lyte. I could test the shoe for a few winter runs and here you can find some feedback.
