Since our founding in 1949, our purpose has been to help people achieve a Sound Mind in a Sound Body. To do this, we need a sound Earth to run on.

We’re committed to make a positive impact on people and our earth for the next generation. We’re taking action by reducing carbon emissions, embracing recycled materials and using less resources.

Our materials

Animation of recycled fabric

Polyester Fabric from Recycled PET Bottles

Polyester production from recycled PET (rPET) bottles emits less CO2e and uses fewer fossil resources than traditional polyester production. This process encourages the recycling of used plastic bottles instead of virgin plastic.

At least 70% of the featured GEL shoe’s main upper* is made with polyester fabric from recycled PET bottles.

Animation of recycled fabric

Recycled Fabric from Textile Waste

Less than 1% (estimated) of material used to make all clothing is recycled — we aim to change that.

The EX89™ SHIGEN shoe’s main upper* is made using 10% recycled felt from textile waste (launching October, 2023).

Animation of bio-based dyes

Bio-Based Materials

Bio-based materials are intentionally made from substances derived from living (or once-living) organisms. These natural resources can be drawn upon to create fabrics for textiles or compounds for sole components. Sugarcane and cellulose nanofiber are some examples.

Solution Dyeing

Solution dyeing will help reduce carbon emissions from our dyeing by 45% and reduce water usage by 33%.

The GT-2000™ 12 shoe’s sock liner is made using a solution dyeing process (launching September, 2023).

*ASICS defines "shoe's main upper material" as the material which covers the most surface area in the upper.

How is ASICS being transparent about emissions goals?

With our new carbon footprint label, we are measuring and sharing the carbon footprint of our products. This will allow wearers to make decisions that not only benefit mind and body, but also the planet.

Learn more about our carbon footprint label and how we’re measuring the carbon footprint during each stage of a shoe’s life cycle here.

How is ASICS specifically addressing climate change?

Our sustainability actions apply to all products and services.

  • Sustainable materials: The COURT FF™ 3 shoe features durable, bio-based materials.
