The ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 22 Retro Tokyo is a high-tech neutral running shoe, with a retro look that reflects the aesthetics and history of Tokyo.
ASICS FrontRunner Wandisile Nongodlwana has been running in them for a while now, here are some of his thoughts:
As the year began, I started looking for a long-distance shoe. Since I am neutral, I mostly run in CUMULUS and NIMBUS and was pretty keen to give the GEL-NIMBUS 22 Retro Tokyo a go.
Firstly, the shoe is so beautiful. I must have worn it casually for a week without running in it! With regards to my training, before lockdown I was running over 80km per week. As a result, cushioning and comfort is very critical to me.
I found the GEL-NIMBUS 22 running shoe is packed full of plush cushioning and special technologies to respond to a natural stride.
Upper: A new monofilament mesh upper material that’s softer and more breathable.
Foam: Two additional millimetres of soft and bouncy FLYTEFOAM® midsole material is added under the foot for improved cushioning.
GEL: A larger section of GEL® cushioning technology that wraps all the way around the heel for improved rearfoot impact protection no matter where you land.
Sole: Additional + deeper outsole flex grooves for a smoother ride.
I have completed one marathon and one 50km Ultra in them and can honestly say, this is best shoe for me for long distance. They are soft and yet have good cushion and perfect fit for my wider feet.
