Remember when you were a kid and you'd splash around in puddles, climb tress, play in the mud and just be amongst all that nature has to offer?

Remember when you were a kid and you'd splash around in puddles, climb tress, play in the mud and just be amongst all that nature has to offer? Thinking back to that, how does it make you feel? For me its totally freeing and this is what hitting the trails can bring to you.

I'm in the middle of training for London Marathon and yet I still find myself on the trails on the easy days, last week I took myself off the Peak District for a 10 mile run and the sense of clarity and relief running in woods gave me was unreal. Jumping over tree branches, crossing rivers and scrambling up rocks just like I did when I was a kid and not to mention the views - just awesome. It really does clear the mind and gave me something that I'm not finding on the roads.

A few weeks ago, I found myself running up a mountain - I just followed my GPS Map and after a right turn, I looked up and yes there it was, a mountain! But I did it and made it back without getting lost! The sense of independence, belief and confidence that gave me resulted in me taking off to the Peaks last week. It's really triggered something in me, its awakened the inner child who loved to be out in nature and she isn't going to stop just yet!

Not so long ago, I thought that you labelled yourself a road runner or a trail runner and that was that but truth be told I'm both as they both offer something different for me. Yes I haven't raced on trail.... YET (Did someone day UTS??) but that doesn't mean I'm not a trail runner.

So yes, I guess what I want you to take away from this is that it doesn't matter whether you run, hike, cycle the trails - just hit them and see if it brings nostalgia or even wakens some new adventure in you. Just get amongst it and notice all around you and see how it makes the mind feel.

Where does the trails take you?
