Eben’s rise as a second row force has been meteoric, with the 21-year-old tipped to rival the legacy of the great Bakkies Botha.

Eben comes from a very humble background, and his father and uncles were all above average rugby players and top wrestlers.

He grew up taking nothing for granted, and this has stood him in good stead as a rugby player. As quiet and unassuming as Eben is off the field, as fiercely competitive is he in the field. Eben gained a reputation as a fierce and uncompromising player in his first year playing at the top level of rugby union.

He was one of the stars Junior World Cup for the Baby Boks in 2011. His height and strength make him a formidable opponent, and he often breaks the defensive line with strong charging runs.

2012 was Eben's breakout year into the Super 15, and in the same year he made his Springbok debut against England in June, after impressing world rugby critics with outstanding performances all round. He played an enormous role in the young Western Province team winning the Currie Cup after a drought of 12 years.

Eben is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with on the world rugby stage, and is a firm favorite with supporters and as a member of the Springbok squad, and the younger generation worship him!
