ASICS FrontRunner Dale Demmer has been using the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 21 for his long runs in training for triathlon and 70.3... And the man is impressed, these are his thoughts:

Having run in previous models of the Gel Nimbus, I was super excited to see and feel the new Nimbus 21 and what it had to offer.

The first thing I noticed was the look. This new version of the nimbus looked and felt amazing, it had a more modern look to it and was lighter then previous versions, I was excited to try them on.

As I put my feet in, I could feel the softness of the sockliner and the way the shoe hugged my foot and the heel counter supported my ankle. The forefoot and toebox area felt wider and my wide feet had more space to move without feeling squashed and trapped.

There was more bounce under my feet with the addition of the new flytfoam light and flytfoam propel. I could immediately feel the cushioning when going for my run. As I tend to land heavily (basically like a baby hippo) this made the long runs a lot more comfortable for me during the back-to-back training seasons.

I like to use the nimbus on my long runs, especially on the days I need to run back-to-back in preparation for the marathon at the end of the IRONMAN in PE and the half marathon at the end of the Durban 70.3.

I think the nimbus suites my running style as I’m heavy and tend to heel strike especially on tired legs. The ASICS AHAR+ help the outer sole and grip to last longer. The GEL cushioning in the heel helped to make the run more comfortable. This, combined with the support of the external heel counter and trusstic in the mid foot make this the perfect running shoe for my long runs when training for IRONMAN races and leading up to the Cape Town Marathon.
