Three members of the UK & IRE team travelled to Lyon to take part in the ASICS SaintéLyon ultrarunning event which links the two Rhône-Alpes cities of Saint-Étienne and Lyon in France. The race offers distances of 13km right up to 160km and is held at night, running through darkness, often in cold, muddy, snowy or frosty conditions. It is however a super popular race!
Debora opted for 45km for her "first night ultratrail run in dark, muddy conditions and with that special silence you only get in the middle of the night. For hours I just kept following the lights in front of me, like a moving constellation showing the way".
Khang took part in his first trail race ever: "The atmosphere was unreal for a night trail. The sky was glowing from thousands of headlamps and supporters lined the trails and small villages to encouage runners all night long".
Toby took on the 80km challenge: "My first real taste of the trails. Brutal, magical and absolutely humbling. An experience I'll never forget".
