Following on the heels of our previous "Beauty of Imperfection" collaboration, we decided to team up with AFEW again for a new GT-II™ sneaker release. This time we decided to work on raising awareness about depression and mental illnesses in cooperation with the Deutsche Depressions Hilfe. While thinking about the concept, AFEW talked to friends and family to seek out any personal experiences they might have and one story in particular struck a chord. AFEW worked with Egotrip to design the special box for this release and it was co-founder Erol's own personal experience with depression delivered the insight that led to the design as well as the concept for the AFEW x ASICS GT-II™ "Uplifting Pack".
To look up and be comfortable in doing so was something recommended to him by his therapist at the time and this developed into the idea of the “Uplifting Pack”. If you’re faced with difficult times, look up, keep your head up and be positive. AFEW designed two colorways of the GT-II™ sneaker. One shoe showcases different shades of the grey and the second one combines varying shades of tan, brown and salmon colors. Both pairs feature a very premium and diverse mix of materials. The brain graphic on the sockliner and partly translucent outsole complete the silhouette with the brown colorway. 10% of the proceeds from this special release will be donated towards the Deutsche Depressions Hilfe.
The GT-II™ sneaker is one of our most classic shoes. Inspired by our running shoes from the 1980s, the silhouette features our GEL™ technology cushioning to improve impact absorption and provide excellent comfort with each step. The padded heel collar also offers a comfortable fit around the ankle.
