With humanity facing what the World Health Organisation calls a “worldwide epidemic” of stress, we here at ASICS are developing a programme to help people look after their mental wellbeing in a world increasingly overburdened with stress and anxiety. To create the programme, we are drawing on our founding values to design something practical to support anyone finding modern life overwhelming.

In 1949, our founder Mr Onitsuka had the ambition to use sport to improve the physical and mental health of young people in post-war Japan. His guiding principle? To develop a sound mind in a sound body or Anima Sana In Corpore Sano. He recognised that by moving our bodies we could improve our mental wellbeing and he dedicated his life and our company to improving the lives of others.

Grounded in science and inspired by our origins, Movement for Mind will be a programme for anyone looking to make a positive change. We will be working with coaches and psychologists to devise a simple way to help improve people’s mental wellbeing by tapping into the fundamental things that make us feel human – moving, being outside, mindfulness and being part of a group

This is the genesis of Movement for Mind.
