20 years since the iconic 1999 GEL-KAYANO™ 5 shoe model was released, ASICS now pays tribute with a reinvigoration of the classic style. Renowned as a high mileage running shoe with superior comfort and a bold VIS-TECH look, the 1999 model was the 5th iteration in the GEL-KAYANO series, created back in 1993. Whilst in keeping with those same principles and legendary silhouette, the GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG model is a bold update for a fashion forward audience.

ASICS has always sought to hold substance over hype. It’s no different with the GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG model, which holds true to ASICS’ heritage. Originally a high-end performance runner, the GEL- KAYANO™ 5 was part of the same GEL-KAYANO family which has set the benchmark for ‘stability running’ for the past 25 years. Now 20 years later and updated with a contemporary twist– it’s still on point – just as it was back in 1999.

A true marriage of vintage and modern - the GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG shoe model uses cutting edge GEL™ technology, a fresh colour pallet and a quadra-lacing system to update the 1999 cult classic, but still remains true to the authentic look and feel which made the shoe so popular back in the 90s. The shoe will also see the return of DUOMAX™ tech, which reduces inward rotation of the foot.

In order to establish the GEL-KAYANO™ 5 OG model as part of the legendary GEL-KAYANO family, ASICS has partnered with the streetwear bible and media agency, Highsnobiety – who will play a significant role in maximising and celebrating the product.

To amplify the official release on ASICSTIGER brand’s owned channels, there will be a series of Instagram stories and posts which will tap into the aesthetics of the late 90s running magazines. Using vintage running editorial material with a modern twist, the Instagram stories will tell the story of how the original shoe came to be – whilst also showcasing product features and purchase information. The stories will then be hosted on the ASICSTIGER Instagram page.

In keeping with the silhouette which made the shoe a classic, the punchy reinvention will be available on shelflife.
