The HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament (stretching over three days and featuring a women’s event for the first time ever,)  took place at the Cape Town Stadium from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December 2019.

The stopover in Cape Town was the second in the 2019/20 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, with the opening tournament having taken place (and won by the Blitzboks) in Dubai a week earlier.

With a women’s tournament added (it was the third event in the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series) the Cape Town Stadium saw new records for tries scored and attendance.

7-5, The All Blacks Sevens beat the Blitzboks in a nail-biting final,
while the Black Ferns won the women’s tournament when they beat
Australia, 17-7, in the final. The bronze medals went to Canada
(women's) and France (men's).
