ASICS FrontRunner Mariella Sawyer is a triathlete which means her training is split up between swim, bike and run. Currently her main distance is '70.3 or  'half IRONMAN' ie 1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21.1km run.

She is highly tuned to making the most of her sessions so that training is always 'quality over quantity' .... She run around 65-70km per week on average, which is made up of some easy endurance runs or speed work. Choosing the right shoe can be somewhat of a challenge because it is not always ideal to use the same shoe for the different sessions. She recently got into the new NOVABLAST.

The NOVABLAST is for neutral runners seeking a responsive running experience. This lightweight design includes our new FLYTEFOAM Blast midsole foam for an energetic bounce with each stride.

The outsole and midsole of the NOVABLAST shoe have been designed to accentuate the energized feeling of the FLYTEFOAM Blast technology, creating a "trampoline" effect that propels you forward. The NOVABLAST shoe is higher off the ground than most running style, promoting improved comfort over long distances.

The shoe's soft, lightweight Jacquard mesh upper delivers excellent airflow, keeping your feet cool and fresh throughout your run. Additionally, reflective details provide extra visibility in low-light conditions.

Here are her first impressions:

I must admit that the first thing that drew me to these shoes was their 'look.' Call me shallow but there’s something very pretty about a clean, white running shoe! And look good + feel good = run good, right?!

The moment I tried them on I really loved how they felt. They definitely have more cushioning than what I am used to go for but I really enjoyed the feel.

The NOVABLAST is one Asics’ new creations. It’s a neutral running shoe and feels light on the feet, weighing in at a mere 263g (UK8).

These shoes include the new FLYTEFOAM BLAST midsole foam for an energetic bounce with each stride.

My first run in them lived up to every expectation. I put them straight to the test with a good Sunday long run with some tempo efforts! A 20minute warm up going into 50minutes at 4.15min/km, straight into 10minutes at 3.55min/km and warm down.

The shoes felt great and I felt like I was floating on clouds. Extremely comfortable and well supported made it a great Sunday run day.

All-in-all I’m very chuffed and excited to use them for my longer and easier runs. They also proved their quality for some tempo work but for the faster 'track' and top end speed workouts I will stick with my Noosa Tri's.
