ASICS FrontRunner Reegan Alward (who is a die-hard roadie) used the ASICS GEL-FujiTrabuco 7’s during her epic four-day run from the coast of Dubai to the coast of Oman. Over some 30 hours on foot across terrain ranging from tarmac to desert dunes, slate mountains and gravel roads she covered some 180km in them.

Here are her thoughts on the shoe:

Myself and six other women all wore these shoes for the recent Coast to Coast project. I assumed I would struggle to adapt – moving from a high-end road shoe to a trail shoe – is tough and yet my body didn’t utter a word of objection.

I could feel the rigidity from the Rock Protection plate under my arches as well as the determined Muti-Directional Lugs giving me the ultimate traction properties I needed in all the different terrains. My manicured, pronating road feet were well cared for by the composition of the midsole with Flytefoam Lyte featherlight cushioning, Duomax stability enhancements and Gel additions to absorb even more shockwaves and irregularities.

The upper trail mesh showed impressive quick-drying and draining abilities (not intentionally included in the testing scope I might add) and the gaiter over the tongue perfectly created more aerodynamic look and feel to the shoe which gave me an incredible advantage! (The tongue gaiter is not intended to increase aerodynamic properties however as a roadie with limited trail knowledge I can only assume this function...Haha).

In short: This really is an impressive trail blazer shoe. I wish I was skilled enough to test them out as a professional on the mountains however, to turn a rookie rock hopper, like myself, into a majestic mountain goat takes something and it was the GEL-FujiTrabuco’s. For elites to newbies and everyone in between, the benefits and performance from this shoe is genuinely surprising and all seven girls from the Dubai Coast2Coast adventure would all agree.
