ASICS FrontRunner Mariella Sawyer is an IRONMAN and 70.3 athlete who races in the pro category. She demands a lot from her gear, both in training and racing.
Her training for the run discipline consists of a variety of runs which incorporate speed sessions as well as easy endurance runs. She is highly particular about which shoe to use for which type of run.

She uses the ASICS GEL-DS TRAINER 24 for speed sessions and shorter runs (up to 15km). The ASICS GEL-DS TRAINER 24 are specially designed for female athletes who love to go faster. These women's running shoes come with a performance knit upper and lightweight cushioning for responsive support for race day or for those simply walking to meet their step count. The shoe features FLYTEFOAM® Lyte technology for durability and a light feel, an DUOMAX® support system.
Here's the lowdown from her:
Terrain: Road
Shoe type: This shoe is made for neutral and slight pronation runners. It’s classified as a 'mild stability racer,' meaning it’s a great shoe for those speedy sessions and races.
Heel drop/offset: 8mm
Cushioning system: The DUOMAX dense cushioning block is very effective in countering pronation/foot collapse. FLYTEFOAM Lyte technology in the midsole provides unparalleled weight reduction and long-lasting cushioning.
Upper: The knit upper is very comfortable and the EVA sockliner – on the inside of the shoe, –moulds to the shape of your foot over time, which makes it a very responsive shoe!
Midsole: The flytefoam lyte system is great for weight reduction and long lasting cushioning along with the Trussic system for stability and control of twisting and torsion.
Weight: 244g

They are extremely comfortable and I really enjoy the knitted upper. The lighter weight of the shoe is a game changer in my speed sessions, making it suitable to use on the grass track as well. All-in-all it’s a really versatile shoe that I love to use for both my harder/faster runs as well as the easier ones.
