Hitting Goals with Martin Guptill

Most boys dream of being Batman, but Martin Guptill was different - he wanted to be a batsman, just like his father. Martin Guptill’s love for cricket began with watching his father play club cricket. His father’s passion for the game, particularly with batting, was a significant influence in developing Martin’s game plan for his life.

By developing his game throughout his childhood and adolescence, Guptill was able to represent New Zealand in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2006. At 22 he became the first person to score a One Day International (ODI) century on debut.

“To compete, you need to have passion. You need motivation. I've seen a lot of people who had the talent to make it, but they didn't have the drive to keep going. It's not an easy road, but if you set personal goals, you have a map to get there."

“Set personal goals - it will help the team win.”

Along with breaking several impressive records, he also holds the distinct honour of being the first person to score an ODI double century for New Zealand. We love watching Martin represent New Zealand and look forward to watching him (hopefully) break more records!

“Endurance needs to be also kept in mind, particularly with your support gear. With cricket you spend a long time on your feet, so having a comfortable and stable shoe is critical, especially when fielding! You can be on your feet for two days in a row, so comfort is key."

“When playing, I use ASICS hockey shoes. They provide me with the support and stability to perform at my best.”
