ASICS running shoes from the early 2000s and the energy of New York City were influential for creating the GEL-NYC™ sneaker’s upper and color palette.
The development for this project started with the GEL-NIMBUS™ 3 shoe and blended it with various embellishments from the GEL-MC PLUS™ V silhouette. These efforts allowed the SportStyle design team to reimagine the heritage sneaker with added dimension and new possibilities for color-blocking.
For the midsole construction, the design team was intentional about choosing a shoe from the past ten years to contrast, yet still complement the upper. By using the GEL-CUMULUS™ 16 shoe’s tooling system, this sneaker features a modernized aesthetic and better cushioning properties. As a result, its combination of lightweight foams and rearfoot and forefoot GEL™ technology inserts create a softer and more comfortable underfoot feel.
