Meet the new METASPEED™ Series

The METASPEED™ Series first launched in 2021 with the METASPEED™ SKY and METASPEED™ EDGE shoes––two racing shoes designed to serve distinct running styles. Since then, the ASICS Institute of Sports Science has continued to evolve the design, fit, and technology of each model based on feedback from elite athletes. Now, we’re excited to introduce the next generation of speed with the METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE TOKYO shoes and the all-new, ultralight METASPEED™ RAY shoe.

A leap forward in cushioning

The METASPEED™ series now features FF LEAP™ cushioning: our lightest, softest, and bounciest foam yet. In the METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE TOKYO shoes, the new foam pairs with FF TURBO™ PLUS cushioning for lightweight comfort and great energy return. The METASPEED™ RAY shoe takes things to the next level with full-length FF LEAP™ cushioning for a featherlight, ultra-responsive feel.

Improved fit and breathability

The METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE TOKYO shoes feature a new MOTION WRAP™ 3.0 upper, which comfortably wraps the foot and secures it to the shoe’s platform. The METASPEED RAY™ shoe's upper utilizes MATRYX™ technology, designed for speed with a high-performance, breathable fabric.

SKY or EDGE: it depends on your running style

When deciding between the METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO and METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO shoes, it comes down to your running style on race day. The METASPEED™ SKY shoe is best for runners who speed up by extending their stride, while the METASPEED™ EDGE shoe is designed for runners with a higher cadence (i.e. a higher number of foot strikes per minute).

All of the METASPEED™ Series shoes feature a lightweight carbon plate for propulsion. The METASPEED™ SKY shoe’s flatter plate helps propel you vertically for extended strides, while the METASPEED™ EDGE shoe’s angled plate propels you forward to accelerate your cadence.
