Meet the new METASPEED™ Series

The METASPEED™ Series first launched in 2021 with the METASPEED™ SKY and METASPEED™ EDGE shoes—two racing shoes designed to serve distinct running styles. Since then, the ASICS Institute of Sports Science has continued to evolve the design, fit, and technology of each shoe based on feedback from elite athletes. Now, we’re excited to introduce the next generation of speed with the METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE TOKYO shoes. Read on to learn what’s new in each shoe.

A leap forward in cushioning

The METASPEED™ series now features FF LEAP™ cushioning: our lightest, softest, and bounciest foam yet. It pairs with FF TURBO™ PLUS cushioning in the midsole for a combo that delivers lightweight comfort and peak energy. In fact, both new METASPEED™ shoes are more efficient than their predecessors, delivering higher energy return than the METASPEED™ SKY/EDGE PARIS shoes.

Improved fit and breathability

Lightweight and breathable, the new MOTION WRAP™ 3.0 upper comfortably wraps the foot and secures it to the shoe’s platform.

Built for stride-style or cadence-style runners

When deciding between the METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO and METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO shoes, it comes down to your running style on race day. The METASPEED™ SKY shoe is best for runners who speed up by extending their stride, while the METASPEED™ EDGE shoe is designed for runners with a higher cadence (i.e. a higher number of foot strikes per minute).

Both shoes in the new METASPEED™ Series feature a lightweight carbon plate for propulsion. The METASPEED™ SKY shoe’s flatter plate helps propel you vertically for extended strides, while the METASPEED™ EDGE shoe’s angled plate propels you forward to accelerate your cadence.
