Meet the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 Shoe: Designed to be Returned

As our first running shoe designed to be returned and recycled, the NIMBUS MIRAI™ shoe marked a key milestone in our global sustainability journey. Now, the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe is here, upgraded for even more comfort and a continued focus on circular product design. Here’s what’s new in the latest iteration.

What makes the NIMBUS MIRAI™ series different?

Used running shoes are often discarded in the trash, ultimately becoming landfill waste. To help address this problem, the NIMBUS MIRAI™ series is designed with circularity in mind, meaning it can be returned and recycled instead of being thrown away. Once your pair has run its course, simply return it through our free recycling program—we'll take care of the rest.

How is the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe designed to be recycled?   

From the sole to the upper, each component of the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe is designed to support a circular product journey. 

• ASICS-developed adhesive: this special glue is designed to provide a durable bond but can be separated easily during the recycling process.  
• Single-material upper: the soft, breathable knit upper is made primarily from a single material to help support easier material recovery. 
• Cushioning made with sugarcane: new FF BLAST™ MIRAI foam in the midsole is made from at least 75% sugarcane material. 

What does the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe feel like?  

The NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe is designed to deliver performance and comfort inspired by the GEL-NIMBUS^® series. The midsole features new FF BLAST™ MIRAI cushioning—made specifically for the NIMBUS MIRAI™ series—to help provide cloud-like softness with a lightweight feel. The upper is made with a breathable knit material and plush collar lining for a comfortable, premium fit. On the outsole, HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ technology helps provide advanced grip and durability throughout your run.  

How does the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe compare to its predecessor?   

Compared to the original NIMBUS MIRAI™ shoe, the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe introduces a few key upgrades:

• Lower carbon footprint: the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe emits only 4.9 kg CO₂e across its lifecycle, a 20% reduction compared to the original NIMBUS MIRAI™ shoe.*
• Lighter weight: the NIMBUS MIRAI™ 2 shoe is approximately 37g lighter than its predecessor (based on a US men’s size 9).
• Updated cushioning: new FF BLAST™ MIRAI cushioning in the midsole is designed for soft, cloud-like landings and a more lightweight feel.
