Men's Football Boots
ASICS designs footy boots for different things, and picking the right pair of men's football boots is more about how you like to play than anything else. The range spans JETRAY™, MENACE™, LETHAL™, and ULTREZZA™, built across a mix of light and fast, touch and precision, and traction and support options, so there's a build suited to speed, control, or a more physical game depending on what you're after.
A few things matter more than they get credit for. Heel gradient is one: ASICS builds football boots around HG5MM™ and HG10MM™ heel technology, raising the heel by 5mm or 10mm to take stress off the lower limbs compared to a flat, zero-rise design. Stud configuration matters just as much for mens footy boots, given how much harder Australian grounds run compared to most of the world. ASICS designs most of its range around moulded studs rather than screw-in, with layouts that spread load across the foot on firm ground and add stability through the heel. Upper material comes down to feel versus conditions, and ASICS offers both: leather, for a closer touch on the ball, and synthetic uppers that shed water and dry faster in wet weather.
Boot choice also comes down to which code you're playing. AFL and rugby league both work in any moulded stud boot, so ground conditions on the day matter more than the code itself. Soccer's constant ball contact and quick changes of direction call for a boot built around close control rather than raw traction. Rugby union is a bit of an outlier: forwards packing into scrums often reach for a metal screw-in stud for extra bite, available across select styles, while backs and everyone else stay in moulded.
If you're shopping for a female player, ASICS also runs a dedicated Women's Football Boots range. It's not a resized version of the men's last: the toe box and heel are shaped differently to reduce slippage and give a closer, more secure fit.
Fit also plays a huge role in finding your perfect pair. For a closer look at how heel height, studs, and upper material all factor into your decision, see our full guide on How to Choose the Best Football Boots in 2026.
FAQs
What's the difference between men's and women's football boots?
Women's football boots are typically shaped with a narrower heel and lower instep, while men's boots are shaped broader through the midfoot. Sizing runs differently between the two as well, so check the specific ASICS size guide rather than assuming a direct crossover.
What stud type should I choose for football boots?
ASICS designs most of its range around moulded studs, which suit the firmer grounds common across Australia. Screw-in studs are better suited to softer or wetter grounds, and ASICS also builds screw-in options specifically for rugby union scrum players.
Does heel height on a football boot matter?
Yes. ASICS builds a raised heel into its football boots to help take stress off the lower limbs, compared to a flat sole, which can reduce the risk of injury over a full season of play.
