Trail running is very different to road or track running, and your clothing needs are likely to be different. Being further from amenities and facing unpredictable conditions means you need to plan ahead and be prepared. Choosing a pair of trail running shoes will be your biggest investment, followed by comfortable clothing that is designed for trail.
Trail surfaces are very different to road or track surfaces, often with uneven ground that varies dramatically in hardness, traction, and even incline. You'll want to find a pair of shoes that are designed with trail running in mind. Look for features that can assist with your off-road run such as lugs, laces that can be tucked away safely, water resistant uppers, and rock plates to minimise the pressure underfoot in the likelihood you step on a rock in the great outdoors.
When running trails, you should take into account the location, the demands on your body, and how long the run will take when considering what clothing to wear. You should look for lightweight clothing with features that will make your offroad run more comfortable. This may include wind and water resistance, pockets to store small items safely, and cords to tighten clothing.
