About golf shoes
Modern golf shoes in Australia have evolved well beyond the simple golf spikes of years gone by. They feature significant advancements in traction, weight reduction, breathability, comfort, performance and water resistance.
Innovations such as spikeless golf shoes offer superior grip, responsive cushioning and stylish designs that enhance both appearance and performance. Now, you can choose from a range of golf shoes to support your game on the course.
How to choose the best golf shoes for you
Choosing the right size of golf shoes is as important as considering features such as waterproofing and performance-focused design. Wide golf shoes can benefit those with broader feet, helping to keep you comfortable from the first tee to the last and even on to the clubhouse.
The ideal golf shoe should be comfortable and breathable, keeping your feet dry in varying conditions on the course. You also want grip and stability for accurate shots on uneven terrain and slopes. ASICS' golf gear offers options for players of every level.
Are there different types of golf shoes?
There are many different types of golf shoes on the market, designed for varying conditions and playing styles:
- Spikeless golf shoes: If you often play on dry courses and don't need extra traction, spikeless golf shoes offer lightweight comfort as you walk the entire course. Some spikeless golf shoes also feature a high-traction sole that provides a solid platform for your swing.
- Spiked golf shoes: When you need extra gripping power, golf spikes are often the best choice. A golf shoe with spikes grips the turf to support a fast and powerful swing.
- Waterproof golf shoes: You may encounter wet conditions even in dry areas if you play early in the morning or after irrigation. Waterproof golf shoes will help to keep your feet dry during a day on the course. Look for a golf shoe with a water-resistant upper to help keep moisture out.
- Cushioned golf shoes: The average golfer walks many miles across a course, making comfortable and supportive golf shoes a priority. Look for golf shoes featuring lightweight cushioning and impact-absorbing technology to reduce foot irritation and provide all-day comfort.
Should you choose golf shoes with or without spikes?
Traditionally, spikeless shoes were considered to be lighter and more comfortable, while golf shoes with spikes were thought to be better at providing support and traction for varied terrain and energetic swings.
Today, these distinctions are less clear. Technological advancements in spiked golf shoes make them light enough to wear comfortably even on the longest 18-hole course. Plus, ASICS' spikeless golf shoes are engineered to provide a superior grip, which is sufficient for most golfers.
Ultimately, which golf shoes you buy depends on your personal preference, the types of courses you play and the dynamics of your swing.
