KENZO X GEL-KAYANO 20

ASICS is unveiling its first sneaker collaboration with KENZO, which has been designed by KENZO’s Artistic Director, Nigo. Three colorways of the GEL-KAYANO™ 20 sneaker will combine KENZO’s heritage with advanced ASICS craftsmanship.

Originally launched in 2013, the GEL-KAYANO™ 20 sneaker is formerly recognized for its structural cushioning capabilities while running longer distances. Its architectural aesthetic draws design influences from buildings and cars, creating a technical shape that yields a wide range of functional capabilities for everyday experiences. The heritage stability trainer is being relaunched by KENZO as a lifestyle sneaker that continues to embody advanced comfort properties and a technical design language.

Two of the shoe’s colorways and materials are inspired by KENZO’s tiger graphics. Each upper construction implements a faux-fur application that’s met with a velour texture, while modifying the TPU cage with a tiger stripe motif. The Digital Aqua/Black colorway draws inspiration from KENZO’s celebrated use of bright colors in their designs, whereas the Glacier Grey/Black iteration references the look of white tigers and one of the original GEL-KAYANO™ 20 colorways.

Meanwhile, the third colorway references the idea of “running around the world.” Its vivid color pops reference KENZO brand founder, Kenzo Takada’s travels around the world and various country flags, while the pattern on the upper paneling features animal embossed details. Lastly, the outsole’s color is meant to symbolize the ground that we walk on.
