OK Basketball Shoe
The OK Basketball Shoe was the start of it all for the brand as the very first ASICS product. At this time basketball shoes were difficult to make, but that did not deter Onitsuka - instead, it inspired him. He gave early prototypes to basketball leagues in Kobe for wear testing. It was refined and released to the public in the spring of 1950.
The Marathon Tabi was our first distance runner. The design was inspired by traditional Japanese indoor Tabi shoes. The Marathon Tabicame equipped with the functions and durability necessary for tough marathon runs.
The MARUP was the next evolution in marathon-running footwear. The MARUP had a sponge in the heel to reduce fatigue during long distance runs and a rounded toe box for mass appeal.
The Tiger Stripes debuted on the world stage for the very first time at the 1968 Games. The stripes are reminiscent of the waves off the coasts of Kobe, the city where the ASICS first made its roots.
