ASICS GEL-NYC™ sneakers bring running heritage to everyday wear
The ASICS GEL-NYC takes running shoe foundations and points them at everyday life. The upper draws from the GEL-NIMBUS™ 3 (early 2000s) with detailing borrowed from the GEL-MC PLUS™ V. The tooling comes from the GEL-CUMULUS™ 16. Rearfoot and forefoot GEL™ technology handles cushioning — the same shock-absorbing tech ASICS uses across its performance running line, retuned for the kind of movement that doesn't show up on a Strava feed: long city walks, full days on your feet, the commute that turns into 15,000 steps.
The GEL-NYC collection covers two main silhouettes:
GEL-NYC: the original. Unisex, mens, and kids' (GS and PS) sizing. Materials across colourways include breathable mesh, suede overlays, and patent synthetic leather.
GEL-NYC 2.0: a chunkier build. Upper references the GEL-1050™ (year 2000), with FF BLAST™ PLUS cushioning, TRUSSTIC™ support, AHAR™ outsole rubber, and walking-specific flex grooves.
Colourway range across the GEL-NYC spans neutrals, reflective gradients, textured suede, nubuck, and black ASICS sneakers for everyday wear.
Can you run in the ASICS GEL-NYC?
The GEL-NYC's are a lifestyle sneaker, not a training shoe. They borrow running tech (GEL-CUMULUS 16 tooling, rearfoot and forefoot GEL technology) but are tuned for walking, commuting, and being on your feet all day. For running, we recommend looking at the GEL-KAYANO™ or GEL-NIMBUS™ performance lines.
What's the difference between the GEL-NYC and the GEL-NYC 2.0?
The original GEL-NYC uses GEL-CUMULUS 16 tooling and references the GEL-NIMBUS 3. The 2.0 is chunkier, references the GEL-1050, and adds FF BLAST PLUS foam, TRUSSTIC support, and AHAR outsole rubber.
Are GEL-NYC sneakers unisex, or do they come in ASICS GEL Men's and ASICS GEL Women's versions?
GEL-NYC styles are unisex, so it's the same shoe regardless of which gender you pick. Each product page lets you switch between ASICS GEL men's and ASICS GEL women's sizing, so just select your usual size and the conversion's handled for you.
