What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas generated over a product’s life cycle. We’re committed to reducing our CO₂ emissions throughout the value chain, so we’re being transparent about how we measure and continuously work to reduce our emissions.

We care about our emissions

We measure the carbon emissions at each stage of a product’s life cycle. Below, we’ve explained the carbon footprint of our GEL-KAYANO™ 30, one of ASICS' pinnacle running shoes.

Materials

1. Materials

Processes to acquire finished materials include:

  • Raw material extraction
  • Yarn formation
  • Textile formation
  • Dyeing
  • Finishing

Materials-related carbon emissions for the GEL-KAYANO™ 30 shoe total 4.7 kg CO 2 e/pair.

Manufacturing

2. Manufacturing

Processes for product manufacturing include:

  • Cutting
  • Sewing
  • Gluing
  • Embroidering
  • Assembling

Manufacturing-related carbon emissions for the GEL-KAYANO™ 30 shoe total 4.7 kg CO 2 e/pair.

Transportation

3. Transportation

Processes for transporting materials during all stages of the product's life cycle include:

  • Acquiring materials from suppliers
