CONNECTING THE DOTS BETWEEN MIND AND BODY

Using a proven 3-step process, Chevy shows runners of all abilities how to train their brain and transform an average performance into a personal best.

1
COOL YOUR
BRAIN
Before a run, lie down on the floor with one hand on your stomach and one on your chest; focusing only on your breathing for 5 to 10 minutes. It will help calm your body and mind, getting you ready to perform at your best.
...............
2
THINK YOURSELF BETTER
Imagine yourself running. Picture all the sights, sounds and smells around you. Now imagine your body tiring and your brain doubting you can go on. Argue against it. Instead of telling yourself you can’t, focus on how you’re going to feel once you have. Now your mind will have a positive reference point next time you’re running and it tells you to stop.
...............
3
RUN
FOCUSED
While running, try to breathe through your nose – it’s good for calmness and focus. Only switch to mouth breathing when you need a burst of energy. Alternatively, try distracting your brain in other ways, like sensing your posture or thinking about where your eyes are looking.

MIND vs MUSCLE

While a 4.5% difference in 5K performance may seem small to the general public, it can mean the difference between winning a medal or not in the world of competitive endurance sports, and its is equally significant for everyday runners who are looking to better their personal bests. A 5% improvement would equate to running 9 minutes faster for a 3-hour marathon runner.

They’re now free to clear their minds and focus on one thing and one thing only: flow.

TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

Your mind will often want to give up before your body is ready to call it quits. With practice, you can teach your brain to outperform your body—using visualization, controlled breathing, and laser focus. You’ll flow further and never look back.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

Try the experiment yourself by joining the ASICS Move Your Mind Challenge. Turn off distractions and stay off your device. Warm up your mind, warm up your body then get into your rhythm and go to the next level.
