Today we kick off our ASICS Movement for Mind trial. I am one of over 200 people taking part. Together, we are putting a simple, movement-based programme to the test to see how it makes us feel.
I’m looking forward to it. Even though I work for a sports brand and run fairly regularly, I still need that motivation to get away from my desk and move.
Personally, working from home over the last year has brought with it lots of benefits. Having no commute has been a life-changer. Yet, at the same time, working from home has sometimes felt like I am constantly working. And that’s not good.
We all know that sitting for long periods of time, plugged into our laptops, isn’t what we should be doing. But it can be hard to break habits. And when there is loads to do, it often feels easier to just keep going.
But we do need to change how we approach the working day and promote regular movement breaks. And as VP HR of a company that literally stands for healthy minds in healthy bodies, I want to actively encourage our people to move more to recharge body and mind. We need to break the constant work cycle and give ourselves a moment to disconnect from our screens and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.
And that is why I am looking forward to starting Movement for Mind. It's going to give me that extra motivation to step away from my desk and get outside. Also, because I will be guided during every session, I don’t have to think too much. So it’s half an hour, twice a week, for me to switch off and move.
To all those taking part in the trial, thank you for the support. I honestly believe that something as simple as moving more, outside, in nature could have a profound impact on workplace wellbeing. And that is a very good thing.
